Happy Birthday To Me

On October 4, 1974 the world welcomed my sass mouth to existence. Humanity has not been the same since.

I wish we could get together for a big SFL crazy, sarcastic birthday party. You wouldn't have to bring a gift. I prefer cash anyways. But since you can't share a party in cyber space, just know you'd be invited and you'd get SFL Bible College credit, too.

Even though it's my birthday, I have a gift for you!

Because I will be 34 in less than 12 hours I have one of my most favorite videos of all time to share with you. My sister tipped me off to this a year ago and Nicole from May I Water Your Camels? reminded me of them. (Go see Nicole's blog. She got the name from my SCL post.) Remember before you see them we all have lots of misconceptions about Jesus. What you are about to behold exploits those stereotypes better than anything I've ever seen. Get out your Depends, you're gonna need 'em.

Happy Birthday Everybody!!!!

As you watch the clips - there are 4 in all - which lines should we adopt for our Bible College? My favorite: "Thee before thou except after thine." What's your favorite?

Happy birthday nonetheless.

As Nicoles Dad let me say how proud I am that the money I have sowed into Bible College has reaped such a harvest...

(I liked the "what in the name of me is going on here" as well.)

Happy Birthday, Stacy!

"Rule #1: Spend all of your free time in church.
Rule #2: You're not allowed to have any fun unless you're laughing at how dumb the devil is.
Rule #3: Wear t-shirts with my face on it.
Rule #4: Always smile and act happy."

"How do you expect to get to heaven playing board games?"

Christy said...

"Your feather plume is poofier than mine".

This was funny, but a bit sad at the same time. I wonder if the guy who made this went to a very legalistic Christian school and ended up on drugs like most of the kids I went to school with. I know, quite an obvious observation on my part, eh? Well, this guy is very funny and creative.

Christy -

It was actually done by a chruch, but I can't remember all the details. It was about rethinkng how we see Jesus. Point proved, I think.

"Benjamin, you're not wearing your WWJD bracelet."

Classic.

Happy Birthday, Stacy!

My wife's birthday is tomorrow. You were both born under the same sign. I'm not surprised.

My first thought was "I'm walkin' in the dirt"... But I also think "What in the name of me is going on here."All of the people who did these voice overs had to have at one time been on the Old Andy Griffith Show! Funny stuff..

Oh --- and Happy Birthday

At first I was just really sad that someone would have such a negative view of Christianity. Yes, I know many people hold that view. So I looked up their website.

Vintage21 is a church in Raleigh that used 4 videos like this to break some of the myths we hold about Christ, Christians and Christianity.

and many more... *jazz hands*

tarajackson,

It was worth turning 34 just for the jazz hands. There isn't near enough jazz hand love in Christendom these days.

Stacey, happy birthday!

I just discovered your blog and have been reading some older posts.

I am stunned -- I think I've been channeling you. Just yesterday I was on the SCL Facebook page and made the remark that I would be *so* there if my church played "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" as part of the worship and speculated on writing alternate lyrics -- and I see you've done it!

Guess I'm still playing catch up. *grin* Perhaps one day soon I'll share the anatomically corrected version of "Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord".

Thanks also for sharing your story. I had a recent epiphany myself. I'm a new follower of your blog!

I am a little late, I know, but trust me, I have many, maNy, good excuses. I made Truffle Fudge Brownies for you and did not burn them and ate them until I wanted to vomit. You're welcome. All God's birthday Grace & Peace, daphne

Happy Birthday Stacy! I'm going to be 50 this week. Now I'm really old and crochedy... but I still have my sense of humor. One of the best parts of getting older is that the older we get, the farther we get away from bad 80's hair.

I love all of those vintage 21 videos and the voice over they used for Jesus.

Oh my gosh! My husband and I have been watching these videos for years and laughing our heads off every single time. They never aren't funny.

Favorite lines:

"John, you drank too much wine last night. Not way too much. Just enough to make me angry."

"Philip, you know what you did. I just can't repeat it because I'm Jesus."

"You are all evil. There is no hope. That is all."

daphne said...

I have never seen that before but it is very MST3000 and I am very down with that.

Kat said...

Stacy! I love the Jesus videos!

Stacy from Louisville said...

Daphne,
I can't believe you dropped a MST3000 on my blog. That was my Sunday night college ritual.
