Some kids have no sense of humor. We are raising a generation of entitled brats, I swear.
Sure, just keep picking on the red headed step-child. Seriously, people, we have issues enough without asking for a Hello Kitty cake and instead getting a HELL!! Oh Kitty!
Mylestones,
I nearly fell off my chair reading what you wrote. Please comment more often.
...and nothing says "I love you" like a bunch of cat hair in your birthday cake.
WTG, Mylestones!
Daddy Warbucks thought it was funny, but Annie didn't see the humor.
I'm sorry, but as an adoptive parent I don't find that funny, but offensive. We tell our children their adoption stories with pride and respect and I hate the way the media and public view adoption as some kind of terrible secret or something to be ashamed of. Adoption is redemption and love, and is dear to God's heart.
Getting off my soapbox now . . .
Hahahaha...definitely how NOT to talk about adoption with your kids!
I'm sorry. I kind of have to go with Erin here. No, I really have to go with Erin here.
My momma always taught me never to make fun of someone for something they had no control over. They wear a hot pink pantsuit made of lycra? Make fun of 'em. They decided to dye their hair blonde an it ends up green? Laugh 'em up big time.
Adoption? Uh, so not funny. Especially not something that makes adoption look like something bad.
It's a wonderful way that God shows us grace and allows children and parents to come together outside the biological norm. My children are as normal as yours. They just didn't grow in my belly.
Thank goodness I never had the heartburn or the hemorrhoids!
Sorry, climbing off my soapbox now, too.
Mylestones and Annie -
In no way am I trying to insult adoption. It is a wonderful thing and an enormous blessing. Congratulations to you both for having such wonderful adoption stories. I think it is fantastic. As with many of the posts on my blog this is offered in light of sarcasm, and this is indeed over the top. Not all my posts will be appreciated by everyone and that's the nature of tongue in cheek humor. Regardless, it was never meant to insult, minimize, or belittle your God built families.
Stacy
I don't necessarily think the picture is making fun of adoption or making it look bad...only making fun of anyone who would choose to tell their child about their adoption in such a horrific way. Of course no one would do that! That's what makes it funny - imagining how truly awful that would be, and knowing it would NEVER happen. (If it DID happen that way, it certainly would NOT be funny.)
I know Stacy didn't mean to offend and doesn't take lightly the amazing gift parents like you give to your children. May God continue to bless you and your families.
I'm just a little creeped out by how much the kid in the picture looks like me as a kid... hum... perhaps repressed memories. I'll have to find one of my baby pics to post... you'll see what I mean.
