Ice! And Snow! And I'm Freezing! Oh My!

I've never pooped a butterfly but I'm sure that's nice. And, kids, I could use a little nice today. Or at least a vacation from reality.

A huge ice and snow storm came through Louisville Tuesday and Wednesday. SFL headquarters is without power as of yesterday afternoon, which is more spectacular than I can say. Much of the city is shut down, without power and roads are filled with broken and uprooted trees.

We're looking at about 7 days without power. Every hotel room in the city is filled. We're trying to figure out what to do.

Sorry for the short post. In the meantime, can we come stay with you?

  1. I hope you get your power back soon and, as far as freezing goes, might I suggest doing things the Canadian way and getting a wood furnace? They're pretty toasty :).

  2. A few years ago I met my parents in Louisville after Christmas because it was about halfway between where we lived and where they lived at the time. We stayed in a cabin just over in Indiana and they had like 2 feet of snow just before. Only time I have had to use my snow chains on the van.

My dog was just a puppy at the time and he loved the snow. He has webbed feet and only sank in a few inches where my parent's dog had to practically swim in the snow since it was higher than her.

We are fortunate where we live and only got about 4 inches. It would have been worse but we are in a valley and the storm came from over the mountains and lost a bunch of the snow before it got to us.

I did break my ice scraper on a think piece of ice this morning though. First time I've ever done that.

  3. I am so sorry your power is out. In a heartbeat I'd come get you and bring you back to stay with us. Stay warm girl.

I'll be praying for you and all of the others who are without power.

  4. you can SO come to Iowa and have some of the same thing, only with power. I could teach you how to live like a pioneer woman with a laptop. Two words - be careful. It hurts so much to fall, especially when you do the head bounce thing. Those words from Jerry McGuire always come back to haunt me...."did you know the human head weighs eight pounds???"

  5. Ugh no power! Hope it gets back on soon. I guess now would be a great time to have that Eskimo Ice Fishing Costume Party we've all dreamed of.

  6. This happened to us last year, major ice storm and then no power for 7 days!

I so wanted to be the Godly Pioneer Woman (GPW); cooking meals on the woodstove, playing games with my family, meaningful & deep conversations, reading Bible stories by candlelight, and counting my blessings. Surrounded with the heavenly glow of gratitude and contentment.

What my family got was the Whiny Irritatable Malcontent Person (WIMP); unwashed, unkempt, ordering take out food, demanding to be entertained, and bearing an unrighteous attitude towards those with generators. Surrounded with the earthly stench of selfishness and ingratitude.

But oh how I sang and danced the day the power came on! Long hot showers! Lights! Heat! Refrigeration! Praise God from whom all electricity flows!

Proverbs 31 woman? Not so much.
    Work in progress? Oh. Yeah.

  7. Can't say that I've ever pooped a butterfly, either. Years ago, my son shared - during pre-school circle time - that he pooped a lightning bug! Doest that count? LOL

Come on over to SW Virginia! No snow or ice here. The sun is shining today! Stay safe!

    Blessings...

  8. If you need a place to charge your phone or anything like that our dear city libraries are open and functioning! I know this because I had to brave the roads and make the trip to my branch so people would have the opportunity to do important things like check myspace and facebook. I hope your power comes back on soon!

  9. Yikes! sounds like you all need to be dressing like the little brother in "A Christmas Story" in the one scene where he had so many layers of clothes on he couldn't put his arms down. There are probably no generators around either where you guys could huddle around a small heater. We actually got a small camping heater designed to be used in tents and other enclosed areas in a pinch.

  10. I second what Candace Jean July 16 said...you're welcome in Iowa. My side just has a bunch (like a foot of snow, but hardly any ice. And, it's over 25 degrees today...A Heat Wave! Wish you could join us!

  11. Waaah, waaah, waaah. You're just getting what ya get for leaving Arizona. There are probably alot of pregnant teenagers that are your fault too, since you left me at the CPC. You should sit around in the dark and question your Christianity and if you actually know what God wants for your life. This could be a sign. I'm just sayin'.

  12. sunny, blue-skied southern CA would host you in a second! but then, well, we'd have to come and get you, and that would require going to a cold place with snow and ice and .... well, maybe... if you could make it out here somehow... you could enjoy our lovely beaches and glorious weather!! : ) (actually i'd love to see a little snow and ice action myself!!) ... sending you bright and sunny thoughts today... stay warm!

  13. You could come stay with us, Stacy, if you can manage to make it all the way to Ontario, Canada. We have a wood furnace, so our house is always toasty warm no matter how freakin' cold it is outside. Plus we're in a really good area, we're hardly ever without power for more than a couple hours, even in really bad weather!

I'll get the spare rooms ready. They're only spare until July, though, so you'll have to go home by then. You might not want to, because I'm totally the best hostess in the world, but it's either go home or share a room with a screaming, crying, pooping newborn.

Praying for you and all of Louisville... snow sucks, man.

  15. I live in Little Rock and it was just north of us. Can't say I'm sorry to have missed the worst of it. We've been through a terrible ice storm with no power for 9 days. Wishing you all the best. Glad to see that you are getting out of there, but thinking that south, like to Florida, would have been a better direction.;-)

  16. We've got the opposite problem here! It is so hot that the power has been cutting out and the public transport system has become so disfunctional from train tracks melting that they aren't charging people to use it today.
